Mediation & Family Dispute Resolution
Mediation
Mediation is an integral part of any family law matter. NewLeaf’s registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner can either mediate a dispute or represent you at Mediation.
Our mediation services offer a calm and structured way to resolve conflict and find common ground. Whether you’re navigating family law, property and/or parenting matters, we provide a neutral space where all parties can communicate openly and work towards mutually beneficial outcomes.
We are here to help you reach clear, practical agreements while preserving relationships and reducing stress.
What is the process of Mediation?
At NewLeaf Legal & Mediation, we provide Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) to help separating couples and families reach practical, respectful agreements about parenting, property and financial matters - without going to court.
Mediation is a required step in parenting matters before commencing Court proceedings, and the Courts will expect parties to attend mediation before a final hearing.
Our process encourages open communication in a supportive environment, allowing everyone to be heard and to work towards fair, lasting solutions that prioritise the best interests of all involved.
Newleaf’s Mediation Process
Intake and suitability check (family dispute resolution practitioner assesses safety and appropriateness)
Preparation (parties gather info and clarify issues)
Joint or shuttle mediation (neutral mediator helps discuss parenting/property issues)
Negotiation & options (focus on child’s best interests and practical outcomes)
Agreement reached or not (partial or full)
Documentation (parenting plan or consent orders; Section 60I certificate if no agreement)
We encourage online remote mediations so parties can attend from the comfort of their own homes or solicitors’ offices. Otherwise, in-person mediations are available for Newcastle, Hunter and Central Coast locations at a venue to be arranged by the parties.
